Graduate Disciplines Include:
Mining Engineering
Our Mining Engineering crew oversees designing, planning and keeping an eye on how the mine runs day-to-day. As a graduate at Westgold, you’ll get a mix of hands-on experience out in the field and time in the office.
What you’ll need: A degree in Mining Engineering, Science (Mining), or Engineering Science (Mining Engineering), finished in the last three years.
Geology
At Westgold, you’ll get the full experience of what it means to be a geologist in gold mining. From underground and open pit operations to resource definition and greenfields exploration, you’ll be part of every step of the mining cycle. With multiple sites across the Murchison and Southern Goldfields, there’s no shortage of variety – and plenty of opportunity to learn and grow.
What you’ll need: A Science degree majoring in Geology, Geoscience, Geophysics (honours is a bonus), or something similar, completed within the last three years.
Survey
At Westgold, our Surveyors work closely with both technical and operational teams to map out mine designs, track progress, and make sure we’re digging in the right place, at the right time. You’ll be involved in the planning, measurement, and data capture that supports safe and efficient mining. No two days are the same, and you’ll get exposure to all parts of the mining cycle.
What you’ll need: A degree or diploma in Surveying, Mine Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field, completed within the last three years.
Metallurgy
At Westgold, our Metallurgists play a key role in keeping our gold processing plants running smoothly and efficiently. You’ll help make sure everything’s performing to plan – from monitoring plant conditions and reporting on performance, to staying on budget. You’ll also get stuck into improvement projects aimed at getting better gold recovery, improving efficiency, and keeping costs down.
What you’ll need: A degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or similar, finished within the last three years.
Environmental Science
At Westgold, our Enviros help ensure we’re mining responsibly and sustainably. You’ll play a key role in managing land, water, waste, and rehabilitation activities across our operations. From monitoring environmental impacts to ensuring regulatory compliance and improving our environmental performance, your work will support the long-term health of the ecosystems we operate in.
What you’ll need: A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline, completed within the past three years.
Geotechnical Engineering
As a Geotechnical Engineering graduate at Westgold, you’ll help ensure the stability and safety of our underground and surface mining operations. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to collect data, support geotechnical models, monitor ground conditions, assess risks, and implement practical, site-specific solutions to geotechnical challenges.
What you’ll need: A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or Geology, completed within the past three years.

Vacation Students
Westgold's Vacation Program gives students real-world experience in an active mining environment. You'll work alongside industry professionals, apply your classroom knowledge to real projects, and get a feel for life in mining.
We tailor the experience to your interests and career goals, helping you explore different paths before you graduate. Whether you're set on mining or still figuring it out, this is your chance to gain skills, make connections, and see what the industry is all about.
Vacation Student applications open May 2025, with shortlisting commencing in June. Interviews take place in July, and if you are successful, you will commence your program in early December.
Apprenticeships
Westgold's Apprenticeship Program is your gateway to gaining real skills, real experience, and a nationally recognised trade qualification.
We partner with registered training organisations to support school leavers, mature-age applicants, and tradespeople looking to upskill or achieve a dual trade. Whether you're just starting out or ready to take the next step, we've got opportunities for you.
With FIFO, DIDO, and residential apprenticeships, you can find a setup that suits your lifestyle. DIDO positions are available for those living near Geraldton, Esperance, Newman, Denham, Cue, Mt Magnet, Dongara, Albany, and Coolgardie, while residential apprenticeships are based in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.
Apprenticeship Trades Available:
Fixed Plant Boilermaker
As a Fixed Plant Boilermaker apprentice, you'll learn how to maintain and repair essential gear that keeps production moving. You'll get hands-on experience with scheduled maintenance, shutdowns, and breakdown repairs, while learning how to work safely and efficiently in a live plant environment. You'll be trained in reading technical manuals, using tools and equipment, and working alongside experienced tradespeople to build your skills and confidence.
Fixed Plant Fitter
As a Fixed Plant Fitter apprentice at Westgold, you'll get hands-on experience working on the heavy-duty mechanical gear that keeps our gold processing plants running. You'll learn how to inspect, maintain, and repair equipment- helping prevent breakdowns and keeping everything operating safely and smoothly.
You'll be part of a team that's all about solving problems, working safely, and getting the job done right, whether it's routine maintenance or urgent repairs.
Fixed Plant Electrician
As a Fixed Plant Electrician apprentice at Westgold, you'll get the hands-on experience needed to become a skilled tradesperson. You'll learn how to inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems on key equipment across our processing plants.
You'll be trained to diagnose faults, carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensure everything is running safely and smoothly. Working alongside a small team of electricians, you'll help keep the plant operating at its best while always prioritising safety.
Heavy Duty Fitter
As a Heavy Duty Fitter apprentice at Westgold, you'll gain the skills and experience needed to keep our mining equipment running strong. You'll learn how to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot a variety of heavy-duty machines. Whether it's performing breakdown repairs or preventative maintenance, you'll work closely with experienced fitters to keep things moving smoothly.
You'll work either from a workshop or out in the field, all while learning the ins and outs of diagnostics, maintenance, and keeping equipment at peak performance.
Light Vehicle Fitter
As a Light Vehicle Fitter apprentice at Westgold, you'll get hands-on experience working on a range of light vehicles, including cars, vans, and small trucks. You'll learn how to perform maintenance, repairs, and servicing to keep our fleet in top shape. From routine servicing to troubleshooting and fault repairs, you'll work alongside experienced mechanics to ensure everything is running smoothly and safely.
Auto Electrician
As an Auto Electrician apprentice at Westgold, you'll learn how to maintain and repair the electrical systems of our light vehicles and heavy machinery. From diagnosing electrical faults to installing and repairing wiring, starters, and batteries, you'll get hands-on training in a dynamic mining environment. Working with experienced electricians, you'll help keep everything running smoothly and safely.
Apprenticeship applications open July 2025, with shortlisting commencing in early August. Interviews/assessments take place in September, and if you are successful, you will commence your apprentices in early 2026.
